How many people out there work MLM home businesses and how successful are you?

Red Birds asked:

I see on the internet that there are so many multi-level marketing home businesses out there even though you never hear anyone in your personal circle talking about them. I started one and it is awesome. Just wondering if anyone else is involved in these and how successful they are. How long? How much are you making? Any advice?
Mine is EcoQuest - it’s about 20 years old and made the inc 500. I found it because I had mold in my house and found a machine on the internet that would kill it. I bought it and it WORKED. The next morning my head wasn’t even stuffed! I was so amazed I wanted to start dealing them so, I do. It’s just difficult finding other people who care, people who want to help get these units out to the public who need them so bad. The EPA says over 50% of illnesses are from indoor pollution and nobody is doing anything about it! I’m trying to - and am amazed at how few care.
The one I am in is

It appears there is such a variety out there - some good, some not so good. But for those who succeed in a big way, what is it that sets you apart? For example, I don’t push, I am here when somebody needs what I have to offer. I’m just amazed that less seem to need that which is available. So much less than I thought. I put it out there to the public and since it’s not candy or explicit material, nobody has yet to beat my door down. So, tell me, what is it that sets those who have lines at their doors apart from those who don’t get paid attention to. MLM or not - it’s about marketing; getting product out to the market. If you aren’t WalMart or Sears, how can you get people to notice YOUR products - that happen to be so much better? ~Is there anyone successful enough to answer this?

I have asked for numbers from people promoting MLM business and I constantly hear that if I get hung up on the numbers I am doomed to fail.

Do you believe that is true?

If you were going to start a home business, with all its bad rep, why would you possibly consider MLM?

Marcello asked:

Considering how many possibilities are out there for business startups, even if you think MLM is terrific why would you consider going into MLM knowing well in advance that a large portion of the population not only whats nothing to do with you but also looks down on your industry?

If you tell your friend and family that you are going into business for yourself, nearly all will wish you best and root for you, but as soon as you tell then its MLM / Network Marketing, half those people immediately put up their defenses.

On this basis alone, why would you choose a business where you are starting off with one hand tied behind you back due to the poor image?
again you see MLMers dance around the question with false assumptions. My profile clearly states what I do and no, i was never duped into MLM.

Now, if anyone actually able to answer the question???
Beth R - rhetorical? So you think just because you can’t come up with an answer yourself that makes the question rhetorical? Nice try.

I am wanting to find out your opinions about your experience with these sites. Tell me what you liked and disliked about them, how much they cost, your perceived value for the money, and ease of use for posting and viewing classifieds. spamming me with your link will be reported, I want info from real people, not just cut and paste ad responses. thank you!

Why do people in MLM always say the fact that its legal means its a good business?

Beelzebub asked:

Whenever I ask a question in regards to why people in MLM think its a viable business opportunity, they inevitably come back with information showing me why its legal.

OK, I got it…I am not going to go to jail by getting into MLM. Now show me why its viable by actually PROVING people are making all this money, by actually PROVING that MLM companies sell massive amounts of product to people who are not reps themselves, and PROVING that its possible to have a network that can continue to grow past 20 levels deep.

Can anyone in MLM actually do this?

Why are people in MLM so emotionally attached to the industry?

Marcello asked:

I assess businesses for a living and look mostly at real estate. When I have been presented a deal and determined it was a poor investment, people generally do not get emotional or upset calling me names and telling me I am negative. This is the same in most business ventures.

But in MLM, you can express your opinion of it being a poor business choice and you get MLMers jumping all over you as though you insulted their family?

Is this because people get in to MLM emotionally instead of intellectually (on the hype as oppose to assessing it as a business), or is it because MLM is more cult like that they would like to admit?
plr2win, you have expressed exactly my point. The issue (well one of them) is that you need to depend on your downline for income, and thus at any given time, there are always more people producing less than is needed to provide themselves an income than there are actually earning an income.

You see, in real world business, whether it be sales, admin, management, whatever, the person working that position is always providing enough value to justify their pay. In MLM, the majority is always earning less than would justify incomes because instead of focusing on personal sales first, they focus on recruiting and thus need others in order to make money.

Show me a model where everyone is first made to do enough personal volume to make a good living then allowed to recruit and I will show you a decent MLM…but none like that exist.
plr2win - to further clarify, its not that I am suggesting the model is some unethical system, I am suggesting the presentation of MLM as a means a getting wealthy is a sham. Explain how an exponential matrix can keep supplying revenue streams for someone on your 20th level. You can’t because at that point you would need millions and million of people in your organization. This simply yet another reason that MLM is flawed as a “business opportunity.”
MLM like a McDonald’s franchise…thats Ripe! It would be the same if everyone in your neighborhood set up competing McDonald’s on every corner with no concern for how that competition affect each franchise, and also if the fry guys and cashiers only got paid when they brought their friends and family in to get jobs as well. Gimme a break. MLMers are kidding themselves with these false comparisons.
